History

Stuart Rose qualified in 1961 at what is now City University. Upon graduation he became a Fellow of the Spectacle Makers Company and Fellow of the College of Optometrists. He went on to lecture in contact lenses at City University and at the London School of Optometry.
Stuart opened his first practice in Southend in 1962 followed by further branches in Woodford, Hatfield, Bedford and then in Gants Hill and Woodford Bridge.
After selling these practices with the exception of Gants Hill, he went on to open a practice in Waltham Cross and one in the Harvey Centre in Harlow. The Harlow practice was one of the first in the country to open in a shopping centre with an open fronted design, rather than the usual closed-door policy that was the norm 30 years ago.
The group ran clinical trials for the first soft contact lenses in the UK and were European agent for Hanita, now part of the Bausch and Lomb group. It was also and still remains a provider of spectacles to many large corporate companies such as Plessey Siemens. Stuart was joined by his son Simon, a qualified optometrist. In 2005 Simon Rose completed his Master’s Degree in Optometry specialising in the investigation of people with learning difficulties, glaucoma , binocular vision, advanced contact lenses and paediatric optometry.
The company went on to open a state of the art practice in Hertford and most recently have opened a practice in Hackney. Stuart has also founded the largest domiciliary care group in London and the Home Counties and continues to operate domicillary services to the house bound.
Rose Opticians continue to use the latest technology equipment and offer modern techniques not available at multiple groups. Orthokeratology, Ocular Coherence Tomography and Fundus Photography to name just a few.
